Contemporary Version of Ernest Igl Desk Meets Men in Black

Some photos are recently leaked on some blogs showing some design of contemporary desk called Igl Jet. This design is created by a small Munich- based company in Germany. Here is the press release we were sent: Going back 40 years in the history of modern furniture, we found an icon of product design. In 1970 Ernest Igl designed a desk that has become a collector’s piece among connoisseurs and acquired a cult following at international auctions. This groundbreaking, legendary desk is now being produced again as a limited edition. In the early ‘70s the igl jet’s revolutionary formal concept and exclusively synthetic composition made it an icon of contemporary office furniture. Now, using the latest technology to ensure the highest quality of reproduction, the Igl Jet is once again available as a limited edition.

Ernest Igl understood that conventional materials such as wood, glass or steel were not compatible with his design concepts: “People allow the limited capabilities of wood and steel processing equipment to determine the style of their furniture – even- surfaced, angular, cold and aggressive”. He reallized that his “structured softness” could only be manufactured using synthetic materials. Under license of Sensufaktur Tobias Brandstetter this classic desk is now being manufactured again. Every desk in this limited edition is numbered. The desk is made of a special high-grade polyurethane mix that is 100% recyclable. It comes in a durable soft matt fnish and is available in four typical colors: pearl-white, jet-black, metallic-gray and metallic-orange or any individual color. On each side of the desk there are three steel, full-extension, soft-stop drawers”. The desk was recently featured in Man in Black 3. Just check out the trailer at the end of the post (hint: minute 1:42).

80 Meters of Rope Used to Design a Creative Chair by Jon Fraser

80 Meters of Rope Used to Design a Creative Chair by Jon Fraser

What do you think a long rope could do? Hanging something on it? Yes, but it also can be used to build a chair. An yes this seems ridiculous but one of the great designers, Jon Fraser, designs a brilliant idea by creating a furniture from 80 meters of rope. Found on HomeTone, the Ropey Chair combines comfort with function and not to mention originality. According to the project developer, the unique chair is ”a quirky take on the use of materials in the world around us. Differing from other fibre/resin composite furniture, Ropey Chair also retains the softness of the Sisal weave in the seating bucket. The result is a striking and comfortable combination. Ropey chair is made from 80 metres of sisal rope soaked in polyurethane resin and cured into 20 unique profiles, which create a smoothly contoured surface. In designing Ropey Chair I considered many possible iterations. However, I chose to make the looped stool as I felt its simple form did not overwhelm the story behind the chair.” Can you guess how long it took for Jon to put together this out-of-the-box design? To prove the process is not exactly an easy one, the chair was a one-week job. We really like the outcome and are wondering if you feel the same way.

Float Coffee Table Inspired by Underwater Air Bubbles

Float Coffee Table Inspired by Underwater Air Bubbles

I think this table is really great to put on your lovely room to complete the warmth of the great Christmas and new year. This table called Float Coffee Table was created by Liz Boscacci and comes with an interesting base structure, which contributes to its very fresh appearance. At a first glance, one may associate the base with coffee beans or playful rubber balls. However, the idea for the product is said to be inspired by the underwater bubbles floating towards the surface. We absolutely love the contrast between the elegant, seemingly fragile table top and the “crowded” wooden base. The materials used to create this intriguing coffee table were turned mahogany and glass. And in case you are interested, the dimensions of the product are as follows: 3 feet in diameter and a height of 13 inches. We are certain that an unconventional design such as this one can not leave one indifferent, which is why we are looking forward to your comments.

A Creative Furniture Design Concept: Bear Table

A Creative Furniture Design Concept: Bear Table

Crafting a piece of wood to be a piece of art is not an easy thing, even more if it is combined of art and utility. One of this design here is a table which has a great sculpture on its feet. The Bear Table is an innovative concept (unfortunately we did not find the name of the project developer, so if you could help us here, that would be great) that aims at blending sculpture with functionality. This product draws attention due to a large bear shape that supports the more-familiar table top. We find the details of the sculpture to be quite interesting and even though this design could seem a bit “extravagant”, we appreciate its boldness. The two color combinations in the photos (green and brown, black and brown respectively) are equally daring and could suit a modern interior with a strong personality. According to HomeTone, the product glorifies the strength of the bear, an animal with unique characteristics, inspiring both power and fear.
