Some interesting photos of David Giammetta’s designs have just been unveiled. The photos show how a 1968 vespa can be so useful for work station. Here are the photos and information: “When people hear the Italian word Vespa, it’s instantly associated with Piaggio scooters. The word actually means ‘wasp’ and was used by Enrico Piaggio for his scooters when they first appeared in 1942, because of their appearance and the buzzing noise that the two stroke engine created. Tougher emission laws and the push to “go green” have made it increasingly difficult for classic automotive owners to maintain their pride and joy on the roads of today. Instead of sending rusty Vespa’s to the trash pile, I have found a more creative solution: turn the iconic scooter into functional pieces of designer furniture! The donor for my furniture project was a 1968 Vespa sprint that was beyond restoration, making it the perfect candidate. I feel that this was a more honorable fate than the scrap metal yard. I have tried to retain the traditional characteristics of the classic icon by converting the back half into a functional work station, complete with adjustable laptop stand.

Tools at Schools is a fusion concept between Bernhardt Design, creative consultancy Aruliden, and The School at Columbia University. As environment and atmosphere do really influence the learning activities at school, the design was purposely created to introduce design of comfortable school environment in the future.

The students immersed themselves in the entire design process, from research and ideation, to hand-sketching, 3D drawing and the creation of scale models. They learned to effectively communicate and sell their ideas both verbally and in writing.

Based on personal essays, five students were selected to visit the Bernhardt Design factories and report to their classes.  Here, the students experienced the magic of design, when their ideas were turned into production drawings and came to life on the factory floor.

Kenneth Cobonpue has introduced a unique collection entitled “Rapunzel”. This furniture set looks playful and elegant. The Rapunzel chair and pouf were created by combining a durable steel frame and further covered with thick hand-coiled upholstered foam. The two furniture elements can be a great addition for a contemporary interior and we find them to be especially suited for a bachelorette’s crib. It is interesting how the color of the armchair has the ability to completely change our perception of the product. For example, in the first photos, the design gives away a sober, elegant appearance, while the last picture of the post presents a more playful version, perfectly suited for the outdoors. The Rapanzel armchair and pouf are also available in silver, pale gray and sand finishes.

At the London Design Festival in September 2011, award-winning British designer, Lee Broom announced his fifth collection called ‘Salon’, a furniture inspired by the curvaceous lines of 1930s upholstery.

Here is the short description from Lee Broom:
“I have wanted to create an upholstery collection for a while; my experience in fashion taught me the importance of beautiful tailoring in design and working with British manufacturers allowed me to be entirely hands-on in the design process. The collection has been brought to life through a  combination of traditional techniques and contemporary finishes.”
